Deputy
Treasurer: Barbara L. Wenzel
Treasury
and Finance oversee cash receipts and disbursements,
financial reporting, investments, and tax billing and collections.
The Treasurer oversees the operation of the senior citizen
housing facility and serves as Treasurer of the Police and
Fire Retirement System's Board of Trustees. The Treasurer also
assists the payroll department with pension and tax reporting.
Treasury
and Finance are forever in debt to the Clerk's office and
its staff for assistance with cash receipting, tax collections
and inquiries.

The 2009 Summer tax will be levied on July 1, 2009
and will be payable without interest through Monday, August 31,
2009. Beginning on September 1, 2009, balances due will accrue interest
at the rate of one per cent (1%) per month, calculated on the first
day of each month.
We urge property owners to make partial payments, as they can afford,
in order to minimize the amount of interest added to the bill.
The 2009 Winter tax will be levied on December 1, 2009 and will
be due on
March 1, 2010.
All taxes unpaid at the close of business on March 1, 2010 will
become payable to the Macomb County Treasurer.
As part of its budget reconciliation plan, the State
legislature passed a law in 2004 requiring the county governments
to levy their operating taxes in July instead of December. The legislation
is phased in over three years; one third was levied in July 2005,
two thirds were levied in July 2006, and the full millage will be
levied in July 2007.
Taxpayers who escrow their mortgage payments may
wish to discuss the impact of this legislation with their mortgage
companies.
